Opotiki Growth Fund

The purpose and intent of the Opotiki Community Growth Fund is to create a focal point for local funding to benefit the growth and prosperity of the Opotiki community with specified focus points as set out by the founding committee in conjunction with the Eastern Bay Community Foundation.

Initial seed funding will be encouraged from prominent and successful Opotiki residents, Opotiki College Alumni, local businesspeople and those with a legacy connection to the town.

Key Focus Points for funding

Primary Industry Business Development – particularly Aquaculture, Horticulture, Apiculture and Farming. Promotion of a mentoring program to encourage local business pursuits in these industries utilising the vast experience of Opotiki business success in these areas.
Business Education & Scholarships – In conjunction with the objective to promote Primary Industry Business Development. Scholarships to advance further education in these areas will be supported as will local sharing of information via seminars and discussion forums. Mentorship Programs to be facilitated and supported.
Opotiki Generational Connection – A focus on two specific demographic areas to make meaningful impact.
0-5 years old – Supporting existing and new initiatives that ensure all children start school on a level playing field by supporting new parent education, encouraging healthy living, and supporting learning, reading and numeracy before the children reach school age.
Retired Opotiki Residents – Supporting existing and new initiatives that promote health and wellbeing of retired and aged Opotiki residents. These programs currently exist but are underfunded and need further support to help increase the level of support and reach.
Disaster Response – Creation of a Disaster Response Fund within the Opotiki Growth Fund allowing a focal point for donations and support in the event of a Natural Disaster.
Opotiki First Fund – This covers all aspects of need in the community having the potential to be supported by allowing the Opotiki Community Growth Fund Committee to consider any perceived need in the community with specific focus on Coach and Mentor education, Environmental Impact Support, Beautification and Promotion of the Opotiki District, Opotiki Tourism Growth, Heritage & Historical support, Promotion of a Healthy Opotiki and Arts, Music, Sport and Cultural support.

The goal is to achieve $1,000,000 in donations to allow the fund to make an immediate and meaningful impact.

The fund will be structured to allow up to 50% of donations to be distributed per annum with the remaining 50% to be committed to an Endowment Fund creating a long term, sustainable generational fund.

The Opotiki Community Growth Fund will form the focal point for all philanthropic giving in the Opotiki District and will form the basis for community-based plans for growth and prosperity.
