Generous Christmas Initiative to Support Seniors in EBOP
This December, the Eastern Bay Community Foundation (EBCF) is bringing joy and support to seniors in the Eastern Bay of Plenty (EBOP) with a generous $10,000 donation from Craigs Investment Partners as part of their annual Christmas Giving initiative. The donation will fund food parcels aimed at assisting seniors aged 65+ who face social isolation, health and mobility challenges, or financial hardship.
The rising cost of living has left many seniors in the EBOP region struggling. Numerous seniors report eating only once a day or even skipping meals, with food insecurity becoming a major concern. In response, the Eastern Bay Community Foundation is launching a one-off food parcel drop to assist 120 seniors during the week of December 16th-20th, 2024.
Each food parcel will include essential groceries and a leaflet with valuable information on local support services available to seniors, including:
Budgeting and financial support
Mental health services
Elder abuse prevention
Social clubs and community activities
Fitness and mobility programs
Food support services
Health and disability resources
Addiction support
Legal and advocacy services
Angela Jackson, Manager for Eastern Bay Community Foundation, commented, “We are pleased to partner with local organizations like Waiariki Whanau Mentoring and Here to Help U, who have donated food and resources for this important cause. By providing these food parcels and connecting seniors with essential services, we hope to reduce isolation and improve the wellbeing of those who need it most during the holiday season.”
The food parcels will be delivered directly to seniors in need, and those wishing to receive a parcel can easily refer themselves by calling the Here 2 Help U helpline.
